This vegan avocado chocolate mousse has been a staple in our household for YEARS and is personally one of my most beloved and craved desserts.
I’m obsessed with the silky mousse texture and rich and creamy taste, as well as how easy it is to make (just blend all the ingredients together and chill).
I also love how this recipe makes a big batch (mine fills six small jars/ramekins) that I keep in the freezer for whenever a chocolate craving strikes.
But truly, most of all I love how good I feel after I eat this mousse, which is no coincidence given that it’s packed with hormone-balancing, energy-boosting and beauty-optimizing ingredients like avocado, cacao, coconut milk and nut butter.

WHAT MAKES THIS VEGAN AVOCADO CHOCOLATE MOUSSE HEALTHY
While yes, chocolate mousse is a dessert, this doesn’t mean it can’t still be rich in nutrients and void of inflammatory agents found in most traditional treats (think refined sugars, inflammatory oils, dairy most find difficult to digest, etc.) Here’s a few reasons why this vegan avocado chocolate mousse recipe is a much healthier option.
+ NO REFINED SUGAR
Instead of using processed sugars like cane, brown rice syrup, maltodextrin, agave or artificial sweeteners that can spike your blood sugar and mess with yourgut microbiome, this vegan chocolate avocado mousse uses only a small amount of organic maple syrup and dates to sweeten.
+ NATURALLY DAIRY-FREE
Most mousse recipes contain dairy in the form of milk chocolate and whole milk or cream that many people find difficult to digest. This recipe uses magnesium-rich cacao powder(very beneficial for yourmenstrual cycle!) and dairy-free coconut milk in its place.
+ HIGH IN NUTRIENTS
One of the reasons why desserts have been deemed “unhealthy” is because they typically lack nutrients that work to keep our blood sugar balanced, hormones happy and provide an overall feeling of satiation, hence why most of the time we’re still hungry after consuming. This vegan avocado chocolate mousse recipe sneaks in a ton of nutrients to help keep us satisfied (see below for details).
+ OPTIMAL BALANCE OF PROTEIN, FAT + FIBER
Unlike most holiday desserts, this vegan avocado chocolate mousse also sneaks in plenty of high quality fats and fiber, that work in tandem with the protein to give our hormones the building blocks they need to do their jobs effectively.
HORMONE BALANCING + HEALTHY CHOCOLATE VEGAN AVOCADO CHOCOLATE MOUSSE INGREDIENTS
+ ORGANIC PEANUT OR CASHEW BUTTER W/ MINIMAL INGREDIENTS
Both peanut and cashew butter contain a high amount of B-vitamins, which work to support liver detoxification in order to move estrogen effectively out of the body. Peanut Butter is also especially rich in zinc, making it an ideal food to add during your period, as it will work to remineralize your blood. Make sure to purchaseorganic peanut or cashew butter without any added oils or sugars.
+ CACAO POWDER
Cacao is rich in magnesium, which helps lower prostaglandins, hormone-like substances that cause cramping. It also supports pituitary health, helping to signal the release of FSH and LH, necessary for a healthymenstrual cycleandfertility.
+ AVOCADO
Avocados are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that work to regulate hormones, increase cervical mucus, promote ovulation, improve blood flow to your reproductive organs and boost the health of your eggs.

VEGAN AVOCADO CHOCOLATE MOUSSE RECIPE HORMONE HEALTH TIPS
+ USE A CLEAN, ORGANIC, UNSWEETENED PEANUT BUTTER
Peanut butter can get a bad rap, but like anything focusing on the ingredients can make all the difference. I always read labels and look for peanut butter without any added sugar or processed vegetable oils like palm/sunflower oil, which cause inflammation and disrupt hormones as a result. This is mygo to clean, organic peanut butter brand.
+ CHOOSE A GUAR-GUM FREE COCONUT MILK
Many canned coconut milk brands contain guar gum, which helps keep coconut from separating, however can increase intestinal inflammation and symptoms such as gas, bloating, etc. This is myfavorite full-fat guar-gum free brand.
+ ADD IN PREBIOTIC FIBER FOR A GUT-FRIENDLY BOOST
Speaking of gut issues, I’m a huge fan of adding in prebiotic fiber to this vegan chocolate avocado mousse. It doesn’t affect the taste at all, but it does add help promote healthy gut bacteria, which works to optimize digestion and relieve constipation, metabolize fats, regulate blood sugar, manage inflammation and decrease risk factors like obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Ingredients
For The Mousse:
- 1 large, very ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
- 1 cup full-fat coconut milk (I like this guar-gum free brand)
- 1/2 cup creamy organic peanut butter or cashew butter (if making paleo)
- 1/2 cup raw cacao powder
- 1/4 cup dates, pitted, chopped and soaked in hot water for 10 minutes (this helps them blend more evenly for a better texture)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp sea salt + more flaky sea salt for topping

For the Coconut Whipped Cream:
- 1 can coconut cream or 1 can full-fat coconut milk, chilled at least 24 hours in the fridge
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- Add all mousse ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy (you may need to do this a few times depending on thickness of mousse). If needed, add a little bit more coconut milk until you get a smooth, thick texture.
- Scoop mousse out into individual-sized mason jars or ramekins and sprinkle the top with sea salt. Place in the freezer for 2 hours to chill.
- Whip chilled coconut cream (if you are using coconut milk scoop out the solid coconut and discard the liquid) with sea salt and sweetener in a high speed blender or beaters until firm. Place in fridge and top mousse when ready to serve.
Notes
*Store in individual sized glass jars or covered ramekins in the freezer and simply defrost one hour for an on-demand sweet treat to satisfy cravings.
